The Surly Goat is a restaurant in Hepburn Springs offering an evolving set menu—a sense of place, seasonality and honest imperfection.
We're driven by flavour, seasonality, and a deep respect for the land and the people who grow our food. Since opening in 2016, we've evolved into a space where ingredients take centre stage, showcased through our ever-changing four-course prix-fixe menu. Each dish reflects our connection with passionate local and small-scale regenerative producers—Mt Franklin Organics, Inglenook Dairy, Adsum Farmhouse, Bundarra Berkshire, Yapunyah Meadow and Great Ocean Ducks, among many other growers, artisans and foraged local goods.

Our wine and beverage selection follows the same philosophy: considered, small-scale, and thoughtfully curated. Selected local and international wines sit alongside house-made cocktails and non-alcoholic beverages.
The experience is relaxed but precise. Unfussy but intentional. Every detail, from the produce to the plate, is a pursuit of flavour in its purest form.
